About Us - Description
Techne Music is a chamber music festival for highly advanced string students. Held at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, students have intense coaching, classes, and lectures on the unique challenges and rewards found in chamber music. Faculty and guest faculty include concertmasters of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Baltimore Symphony, faculty from the Curtis Institute of Music, Rowan University and the Juilliard School, and members of Orion, Daedalus, Vega, Uptown, and Serafin String Quartets. The festival usually runs for five days in June.
Because of the nature of chamber music, the teacher/student ratio must remain small in order for the students to have the best experience possible. While most students at Techne Music do plan to major in music, several students who have attended seek careers in medicine, engineering, and business. Working on chamber music in an intense but friendly setting teaches students skills in organization, communication, discipline, and expression. All of these are vital for a successful career in any field. Due to generous donations from individuals and organizations that support the Arts, Techne Music has been able to offer numerous full and partial scholarships to over half of the students who are accepted.
